Friday, 21 April: Rainbow March for Human Rights

18 April 2017

starting at 5 pm at the Vienna State Opera

This Friday (21 April, 5 pm), MiGaY and many other Austrian LGBTIQ organisations and activists are coming together in Vienna’s inner city to protest against the current mistreatment of gay men in Chechnia.

Starting at 5 pm, we will gather at the Vienna State Opera in Vienna’s first district. The demonstration will walk to the Parliament, where we will hold a moment of silence for all the victims in Chechnia. Don’t forget to bring flowers so you can lay them on our big banner with the hashtag #chechnya100. We will lower our rainbow flags during the moment of silence. Then, the following people will speak:

  • Gernot Lindner (Mr. Fetish Austria)
  • Ewa Dziedzic (activist)
  • Marty Huber (Queerbase)
  • Dr. Susanne Scholl (writer and journalist)
  • Gerd Picher (To Russia With Love Austria)

The event will end with music.

If you cannot participate in the demonstration yourself, you can still show your solidarity. Simply post a selfie with a sign that shows the hashtag #chechnya100 on your Facebook, Twitter or Instagram account (don’t forget to include the hashtag also in your posting’s text). If you’re at the event, we invite you to have a picture taken of you with your signs, which will also be posted on social media.

You can find more information about this demonstration on the event’s public Facebook page.
